Poetry performers of the week ...

The children read and watched a range of performance poetry including Michael Rosen and Benjamin Zephaniah to take notes of techniques and ideas they would like to use for their own performance of the poem 'The Sound Collector.' The children worked very hard in their groups and the teamwork was fantastic. Our poetry performers are posted below - a group from 3A in the outdoor theatre,  and one from 3S! Well  on your expression and imaginative ways to present the poem.

KS2 Easter Egg Competition

It's that time of Year again! In KS2 the children design their own 'Eggcellent' projects as part of a KS2 competition for our Easter celebrations which will be exhibited on Thursday 24th March! We can't wait to see the designs your children come up with as it's always such a fantastic event in school! Here are a couple of ideas to get the creative juices flowing ...

Investors in pupils - Invesores en alumnos

The children are raring to go with their new Investors in Pupils  targets! 3B's class target is lining up smartly in a super Commando Joe line! 3S' target is to sit down to work independently in the lesson. The children have personalised target cards to sign off each time they complete their target ... when they have done this eighteen times their successes are shared in Celebrations assembly!

International Links!

A quick reminder that we are still keen to celebrate the many International links that have been developing since the visit from our paired school in Colombia last year! Please visit the Colombia page on the Rise Park website to read a joint Rise Park / Colombia blog, learn about the new vegetable garden being set up at Manuel Mejia Vallejo and much, much more!

PE Kit - Reminder!

As previously mentioned, Year 3 PE lessons for this half term are on a Tuesday and Thursday. For both sessions we will be outside whenever the weather allows. As such, your child must have a suitable outdoor PE kit in school all week so that they do not forget it on these days!

Your child's PE kit must contain:
  • shorts [indoor]
  • t-shirt [indoor]
  • plimsols [indoor]
For outdoor sessions:
  • tracksuit / jogging bottoms [outdoor]
  • sweatshirt [outdoor]
  • trainers [outdoor]
Unfortunately, a large number of children this term have been without the correct PE kit, and this has made lessons very difficult. Please ensure that all children have the correct kit, in a size which fits them and is clearly labelled with their full name. Also remember that any jewellery worn by children must be removed prior to the start of these PE sessions.

Thank you for your help and support in this matter.

Enterprise Week - Market Researchers

We ended last half term with a school-wide Enterprise Week where we learnt about many different jobs. In Year 3 we worked as Market Researchers, focusing on the healthy snacks eaten by children at school during break and lunch times. We identified cereal bars as being a snack that needed a "face-lift"; children were being given them by parents but did not enjoy eating them!

The children worked in groups to design a new cereal bar, deciding on the ingredients that they would put in their bar and the wrapper that it would be packaged in. They collected data from one another, voted on favourite flavours and planned each stage of the design process. They worked together in groups to make the cereal bar mixture, and packaged this themselves, using their own marketing ideas.

We looked together at how mascots are used to promote and sell, and the children designed their own mascots to advertise the cereal bars that they had produced. On the Friday of Enterprise Week, the groups used the school iPads to film a TV advert to help promote their new brand, working from scripts that they had written together earlier in the week.

Here are some photos of the finished cereal bars. All of the staff were really impressed by the children's hard work, and their ability to work together as a team. Well done Year 3!

Spring Term Continues!

Welcome back to Rise Park for the second half of the Spring Term! Although we are only at school for a little over five weeks, there are an awful lot of events and activities packed in to this half term.

We will be celebrating our love of reading and meeting a real-life author of children's books during World Book Day; painting faces, dodging dodgeballs and raising money for Comic Relief on Red Nose Day and preparing Easter Egg competition entries for our annual - and near world-famous - Rise Park Primary School Easter Competition! We are also very fortunate to be working with Commando Joe each Thursday this half term - as such, children must have their PE kits with them on a Tuesday and Thursday this half term.

As you can see, the children will have a lot of great opportunities this half term, and we hope that they will engage with them and take part to the best of their ability.

Welcome back and we hope that you had a nice half term. We would like to take this opportunity to share with you some of the things year 3 are doing this half term.

We are continuing with our Roman topic work and we would like to thank you for all your support with your children's homework project. It was wonderful to see the projects that they have created and it is very clear that the children have worked extremely hard on them. As result of this we have decided to display them in our quiet area for other children around school to come and see. Here are some examples for you to see.

This term we have discussed with the children the importance of keeping safe in and outside of school. The children had the opportunity to complete a questionnaire to enable them to voice their opinions. Some of the things which the children said made them feel safe are
  • Adults in school to talk
  • Being familiar with the rules of e-safety in the ICT suite
  • Classroom rules
For more details about the children's responses please see the attachment on the year 3 web page.

Also this term year 3 have been getting creative in craft club which is an after school club run by Mrs Fay. See below some of the exciting things that 3MS made before half term.

We have a fun filled and busy half term to follow with the Christmas period fast approaching. We would appreciate your support in helping your child to learn the words to our Christmas songs which will be sent home shortly.

In the meantime the children will be working on their D&T projects to design and create a Roman photo frame. As the project unfolds we will be able to post some photos of the children's work.

Finally your child will soon be bringing home a letter to advise you of our new reading initiative 'the reading race track'. Again we would appreciate your support with this as we believe it will strongly benefit your child's reading and writing development.

Our focus topic is the Romans and much of our work will based around this theme.

Please take time to read through the Year 3 newsletter which your child will bring home soon. This will tell you a little more about this term.

The children have settled into year 3 well and are learning new routines.

Year 3's Super Summer Term

Welcome Back!

All of the year 3 team hope you have had a lovely break and didn't eat too much chocolate, it sounds like the children had a eggs-ellent easter!

This term we are going to be learning all about the Second World War with particular focus on what it would have been like growing up during the war.
We are lucky enough to be going on a trip to Brackenhurst, where the children will be able to experience what it would have been like. It should be a really interesting and exciting day!
We are also going to be learning all about Plants and thinking about their lifecycle and how different plants can survive in different climates. This will also link into their Spanish work where they will be thinking about the Spanish names for the parts of a plant and how they grow.

Our Summer homework project is very exciting this term as it will be linked to our international links with schools in Columbia and Lebanon!
The children have been set the challenge of creating a homework project that links to an aspect of their life in Nottingham. These can be in collage, picture or written form and should include descriptions of what they like to do in Nottingham. A selection of the work from each year group will then be taken over to Columbia when some members of staff visit later this year!

Thank you for your support and we look forward to working with you over the course of  the summer term!

Key Stage Two Christmas Production

We have begun preparations for the Key Stage Two Christmas production.  This year we are performing The Button Box, which involves learning eight songs! Please help to support your child in learning the words at home.
In order to create space in the hall, we are splitting years 3 and 4 this year.  Remember to check which night your child's class is performing.
Year three are 'Boogie Dancers' so please keep an eye out for a letter coming home in the next week, which will give details of the outfits the children will need to bring in for this.

Thanks for your continued support

Welcome to Year 3

The teachers in year 3 this year are Miss Ordoyno and Miss Shore.  Mr Ginns-Farrow is the year 3 teaching assistant and Miss Bell is our Schools Direct student teacher.

For the first two weeks of term we read and produced work based on a book called The Boat, by Helen Ward & Ian Andrew. The children really enjoyed reading this book and produced some fabulous artwork for our display outside the classroom.

Have a look when you're next in visiting!

Today (07/11/13) we have sent a letter home with your child about their homework project for this half term.  We hope you enjoy supporting your child in producing a festive classroom decoration, with instructions on how to make it! We are looking forward to seeing the children present their homework during the last week of this half term.
